Writing History from the Wills and Inventories of Sheen 1540-1620

We are very lucky here at Peeling Back the Layers to have a multitude of volunteers, all with a range of experiences and a variety of abilities to draw upon. One such volunteer is Pauline Dolan, who, for a Certificate in Local History at Keele University, analysed the probate documents from Sheen from 1540 to 1620.

Pauline has kindly allowed me to upload her analysis here for you all to read – just click on the links below to access a pdf document and excel document. It makes fascinating reading. Pauline shows how documents such as wills and inventories can help us say something about the lives and concerns of the people of Sheen all those centuries ago.

Happy reading!
